About SLProfiles

I was born in Second Life in May this year (I remind you we are still in 2007…) and I registered in SLProfiles only on December, 23rd following a discussion by mail I had with a friend (Daneel, how much I owe you!) about other tools allowing people to meet (Facebook-like)
7 days yet and my profile was read 127 times…
What scares me most is that I added 13 friends to this profile!
If I remove from these new friends Daneel (he was already) and Admin (I guess he is everybody’s friend) I get 11 actual new friends.
If I extrapolate in one year I will have
- 127/7x365=6,622 readers and
- 11/7x365=573 new friends
Whereas I can cope with the mere readers, after all they don’t harm me and anyway I don’t know who they are, as regards the friends it’s another matter that I must consider seriously.
A friendship is something we can’t only compute in a list just for the sake of record, so how will I be able to manage so many future friends…?
Actually instead of friend I would prefer using the term of potential friend, that is someone who read your profile, or whom you read the profile, and you do not see any major discrepancies between you and them so as to definitely refuse a first offer.
There is one funny thing, it is that my old friends in Second Life are not registered in SLProfiles and hence are not my friends there; I imagine when they read this post and register, they send me a friendship offer that would come for some of them six months after our first encounter in Second Life.
Another hilarious thinking that comes to my mind is that Daneel, who is in my top six in my SLProfiles friends, is someone I never met in Second Life; we only had interesting discussions about other worlds like HiPiHi or Novoking (though we do not talk Chinese at all) and above all he helped me a lot on technical matters (I am a hopeless and terrible eternal newbie at IT)
Ah yes we met once in Openlife, but is it really Second Life…? It’s rather Canada Dry, but maybe only French people will understand that…
By the way I would like to avoid Canada Dry friends, so don’t be surprised if you applied, I accepted and finally we never get along with each other, it will only be because I run out of time to explore my intangible worlds, dedicate some time to my physical family (you know, the one I can really pinch and they say ouch!), swot during my working time and chat with my real in-world friends.
If you want to be part of the latter, you will have to be very patient or…persuasive!

True friends are those who really know you but love you anyway.

Bon c'est bien parce que je n'ai pas beaucoup de temps et que pendant le chargement de RLC je laisse mon esprit divaguer.

Failure with Novoking

Novoking is incredibly complicated, far more complicated than HiPiHi (here are my first attempts to connect...
So far the most I could obtain was a nice blue screen where I always failed, no matter the data I entered.
Now I can even no longer reach this screen, apparently I made something wrong and I am stuck where you can see a nice boy with his thumb up, maybe telling me that I am fucked... (in occident we show another finger, but the meaning is the same)
I created three different accounts, thinking that something was wrong during the registration process, but with each of these accounts the result is always a mysterious error message in Chinese surely telling me that No you are not allowed to enter!
I sent an SOS to Novoking, now let's be patient, I only hope they give me some documentation in English...
The main problem is that I can't even copy/paste their ideograms to translate them with Google, so it's difficult to figure out the meaning of these damned error messages.

My avibot

I had a dream…

Let’s say I am a scientist and I am able to create an avatar that can behave on its own, without me commanding do this or do that.
The avatar of a robot: an avibot.
I stay still on my chair, facing my computer, elbows on the desk, head supported by my cupped hands, and I only watch my screen where my creation is making her way.
I prefer saying her instead of its to give my avibot some personality, but of course don’t think one moment that I believe my baby is a living creature, I always have my feet touching the ground, even if my mind often tends to travel with the clouds.
I can see her doing shopping, chatting with people, with my friends if I gave her their names, dancing , even camping if she needs some money and I am too penny-pincher that I forget her periodic installment, having sex at random or with specific partners according the restrictions I made during the customizing, creating weird objects, painting splendid scenes, scripting phenomenal programs, teaching newbies how to dress-up without looking ridiculous and so many other things that you and I can’t even imagine doing in our cherished in-world.

But when I woke up I had to admit that I am not a scientist.

When I am with my avatar, I am bent over my desk, scrutinizing my screen with my squinted eyes, struggling with the mouse, striking the keys in the bda odrer, and nothing goes as I would like things go!
Apart from doing shopping and chatting with people, maybe dancing though I am a terrible professional (the most I made was 50L$ in a whole night, unless it was 500…I don’t remember, it’s now so far away…), all other activities are unreachable to me (well I forgot one, but you know that I have some reserve… )

Conclusion: I am more stupid than a robot.

But the robot cannot have my reserve.

That saves me from depression.

So we and our elaborately evolving computers may meet each other halfway. Someday a human being, named perhaps Fred White, may shoot a robot named Pete Something-or-other, which has come out of a General Electric factory, and to his surprise see it weep and bleed. And the dying robot may shoot back and, to its surprise, see a wisp of gray smoke arise from the electric pump that it supposed was Mr. White's beating heart. It would be rather a great moment of truth for both of them.
